Where It All Began

24,000
children under five die every single day from preventable causes.

In 2010, Carter Hill stood in front of a whiteboard and wrote one number. He had been reading a World Health Organization report. The number was 24,000 — the children under five who die every single day. Not from mysterious diseases. Not from conditions beyond our understanding. From dehydration. From infections we cured decades ago. From malnutrition — in a world that produces enough food for 10 billion people.

That number broke something open. It wasn't a lack of knowledge killing those children — it was a lack of systems to deliver what we already know. The cures exist. The expertise exists. But it's scattered across 8 billion people who have no way to connect it to the people who need it most. A mother in rural Kenya doesn't need a new invention — she needs the oral rehydration therapy that already exists to reach her village before it's too late. A community health worker in Uganda doesn't lack dedication — they lack the connected intelligence to match symptoms to solutions in real time.

The tragedy isn't that we don't know enough. The tragedy is that we know more than enough and still fail to connect that knowledge to the people who need it most. Every year, millions of preventable deaths occur not because humanity lacks answers, but because the answers live in silos — locked inside institutions, buried in research papers, hoarded behind paywalls, or simply unknown to the communities where they could save lives.

Carter spent the next 15 years designing systems that could bridge that gap — studying how knowledge flows, how communities organize, how technology could serve the most vulnerable instead of exploiting them. He studied everything from microlending in 🇰🇪 Kenya to community health networks in 🇺🇬 Uganda, from education models in 🇧🇷 Brazil to innovation ecosystems in the 🇺🇸 United States. What he found was always the same pattern: the knowledge existed, the will existed, but the connective tissue between them was missing.

That whiteboard moment became the founding purpose of Day 7 Public Benefit Corporation and the genesis of Genesis — the most comprehensive AI platform ever built for human flourishing. Every line of code, every architectural decision, every sleepless night traces back to that one number.

Delivering exceeding value, void of all exploitation.

The Problem We Solve

MacArthur spends $40M+ annually on evaluation and coordination across 1,800 grants in 50 countries. They cannot see which interventions compound across regions. A criminal justice program in Chicago may share 80% of its methodology with one in Johannesburg — neither knows the other exists. Their 100&Change competition receives 1,900 proposals per cycle that take 18 months to evaluate.

What Genesis Delivers

One intelligence connecting 46 years of grant outcomes. Every program's data feeding every other. Grantees auto-matched for collaboration. 100&Change proposals evaluated in days, not months. Impact prediction before dollars deploy. $250M/year performing like $2.5B because knowledge compounds between every grantee, every program, every country simultaneously.

The Problem We Solve

Omidyar funds the thesis that technology can be responsible. They have 200+ portfolio companies building pieces of that thesis — but those companies operate in silos. A digital identity startup in Kenya doesn't know an information integrity nonprofit in DC is solving the adjacent problem. Their investments generate insight that never compounds. The thesis stays theoretical.

What Genesis Delivers

Genesis IS the thesis made architecture. Not a whitepaper. A running system that proves responsible technology at scale. Every portfolio company's work reinforcing every other. Knowledge flowing between investments. Responsible technology that structurally cannot be made irresponsible. Their entire $1.5B portfolio connected by one constitutional intelligence.

The Problem We Solve

Firefox fell from 32% to 6% market share. Not because it's inferior — because AI changed the game and Mozilla has no AI answer. Thunderbird has 20M users but zero intelligence. Google pays Mozilla $450M/year for default search — that contract expires. Without a differentiation strategy, Mozilla faces existential irrelevance.

What Genesis Delivers

Firefox becomes the ONLY browser that fights manipulation. 14+ persuasion techniques detected in real time. Dark patterns illuminated. Thunderbird + Genesis = the most intelligent free email on Earth (Superhuman charges $30/month for less). Mozilla Monitor + Genesis = breach protection that connects exposed data to manipulation risk. 200M users become 600M because you become the only browser that actually protects people.

$600M/year across 1,000 grantees in 50 countries. A community organizer in Lagos and a justice researcher in Chicago are solving the same problem from opposite directions — they will never meet. Ford estimates 12-15% of grants duplicate existing work. Impact evaluation costs $50M+ annually and takes 2-3 years to produce actionable insight.

What Genesis Delivers

One living intelligence connecting every grantee across every country. Duplicate work identified before funding deploys. The organizer in Lagos auto-matched with the researcher in Chicago. Real-time impact measurement replacing 3-year evaluation cycles. Justice becomes accessible to every community because the knowledge is finally connected.

The Problem We Solve

7,117 living languages on Earth. 40% are endangered — dying at one every two weeks. Cultural archives sit in institutional silos. A scholar in Accra cannot access a Berlin archive. A linguist in Papua New Guinea cannot connect their field recordings to a university in São Paulo. $300M/year funds institutions that cannot see each other's discoveries.

What Genesis Delivers

Every language, every archive, every museum, every university sharing discoveries through one knowledge graph. A scholar in Accra finds a connection to a Berlin archive that transforms their field — instantly. Endangered languages preserved not as dead files but as living, connected, searchable intelligence. Cultural heritage that compounds instead of decaying.

Only 54% of Americans hold quality post-secondary credentials. Lumina's goal is 60%. The gap represents 19 million adults. Each credential-holder earns $1.2M more lifetime vs non-holders. The education system is a $700B industry that cannot personalize, cannot connect workforce needs to curriculum, cannot serve the student in rural Mississippi the same as one in Manhattan.

What Genesis Delivers

A student in Nairobi accesses the same depth of knowledge as one at Harvard. Personalized by sovereign AI that makes learners smarter, not dependent. Curriculum connected to real workforce demand in real time. The 19M Americans missing credentials get a path that actually works — adaptive, personal, free of extraction. Kapor invests in 150+ gap-closing companies — but a founder in Detroit still doesn't have the same intelligence resources as one in Palo Alto. Algorithmic bias is embedded in the systems their portfolio companies fight against. The tools of equity are outgunned by the tools of extraction.

Every underrepresented founder accessing the same quality of insight venture-backed founders take for granted. Bias detection built into the architecture — not as a feature, but as a constitutional requirement. 150 portfolio companies connected by one intelligence. The Problem We Solve

Packard funds hundreds of scientific institutions working on interconnected problems — ocean health, climate systems, conservation, reproductive health. A marine biologist in Indonesia publishes findings that directly relate to a forest study in Brazil. Neither team knows. Scientific discovery happens in silos. Papers take 18 months to publish. Correlations across disciplines go undetected for decades.

What Genesis Delivers

65 million knowledge connections accelerating discovery across every ecosystem. The marine biologist in Indonesia is auto-connected to the forest researcher in Brazil the moment a correlation appears. Climate data flows to communities in real time. Cross-disciplinary discovery that took decades now takes days. No single lab could do this. Genesis connects them all.

The Problem We Solve

Climate data moves at the speed of bureaucracy while the climate moves at the speed of physics. A farmer in Iowa and a policy maker in DC need the same truth but it takes years to flow between them. Environmental grants fund research that sits in journals. Communities affected by climate change are the last to receive intelligence about it.

What Genesis Delivers

Every environmental data signal connected to communities that need it. Climate intelligence democratized and delivered at the speed of the crisis itself. A farmer in Iowa and a policy maker in DC seeing the same truth in real time. Research connected to action. Environmental protection powered by living intelligence that moves as fast as the threat.

The Problem We Solve

David Siegel built Two Sigma into a $60B quantitative powerhouse. He understands systems. The Siegel Family Endowment funds research asking one question: "Can technology serve people instead of exploiting them?" Every grant they make is a bet on that thesis. But bets need proof. Whitepapers don't change policy. Running systems do.

What Genesis Delivers

Genesis IS the proof. Not a paper. Not a theory. A running system — sovereign, constitutional, serving 8 billion people without extracting from any of them. Living infrastructure that demonstrates at scale what their research portfolio theorizes. Their thesis made architecture. David Siegel understands what it means when the model works.

The Whole Exceeds the Sum

The farmer’s knowledge in Lumina’s education mission becomes the data in Packard’s science mission becomes the evidence in Ford’s justice mission becomes the tool in Kapor’s equity mission. Genesis connects them ALL. That’s what no one else can do.

$500M across 10 silos = 10 impacts.
$500M + Genesis = civilization infrastructure
that compounds forever.

Five priority areas: Democracy, Education, Humanities & Culture, Labor & Economy, and Security. Genesis addresses all five.
